Zidane steps down as Real Madrid coach

Zinedine Zidane left Real Madrid on Thursday afternoon and aside from the indelible mark he left on their trophy cabinet, he also showed them what sort of boss is needed to succeed at such a hard, high profile club.

Zidane leaves Real Madrid after winning three Champions League titles in two-and-a-half years at the Bernabeu.

A three-time Fifa World Player of the Year, and Ballon d'Or victor, Zidane has played more than 150 times for both Juventus and Real Madrid. I know it's a unusual moment for everyone involved, but I think it's the right decision.

"What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology".

Defender Achraf Hakimi wrote, "Eternally grateful for your trust, manager and for being that person who allowed me to complete my dream of playing for Real Madrid's first team". "I wish we could always have Zidane by our side, but we know that when Zizou makes a decision, the only thing we can do is to accept it and respect it".

On top of the Champions League triumph, Real won La Liga previous year under Zidane.

" When he says he's taken a decision though, we have to accept it".

Liverpool to 'recharge' before Champions League final - Jurgen Klopp
Mohamed Salah has declared that he is staying with Liverpool next season after enjoying a record-breaking debut season at Anfield. They share the journey times , the delays, the cost and sacrifice of time to prioritise supporting this great club.

Here is a Zidane fan who is still in disbelief of what he has just seen/heard... I have learned a lot as a player and a person under you.

"It's not goodbye, it's 'au revoir' meaning he could one day come back to Madrid", Karembeu said.

Five days after winning a third Champions League title, Zinedine Zidane has stunned Real Madrid by resigning as manager. "I thank him for the work he has done".

The former World Player of the Year also won the Champions League in 2002 as a player with Los Blancos, scoring an emphatic volley against Bayer Leverkusen in the final at Hampden Park.

"Like I told the president it could be a "see you soon" because Madrid has given me everything", Zidane added.

But Zidane won the confidence of players and the rest is history.

"I am doing this for the good of this team, for this club". I think it's the right time.
