In the city of Raqqa, once the capital of the Islamic State's self-proclaimed caliphate, demonstrations staged in recent days have called for the return of government control and have been suppressed by force, according to local news reports.
Israel and the United States have raised objections to an offensive because of the role of Iran and Iranian-backed militia groups in supporting the Syrian government and because of an existing ceasefire in the area.
This month, Israel said it launched intensive air strikes in Syria after what it described as Iranian rocket fire from the south into the Golan.
The Douma attack triggered missile strikes on Syria by the United States, Britain and France which they said targeted Assad's chemical weapons programme.
Though he did not mention Iran specifically, Lavrov said that only the Syrian regime should field military forces in the country's southern border areas, Reuters reported citing the state-operated RIA news agency.
Sources added that Bolton and Ben-Shabat will also discuss joint military cooperation in countering Iran's presence in Syria.
To protect the sovereignty of Syria, Assad vowed to "improve our air defense, this is the only thing we can do, and we are doing that".
Stalker 2 is in development (again)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has had a tumultuous development cycle, previously being announced and then later cancelled in 2011 . This means that the game probably wont be out for another few years.
Those strikes followed a barrage of rockets that Israel said was sacked toward its forces in the occupied Golan Heights by Iran from Syria.
At the same time, the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz", citing its "Western diplomatic sources" says that Russian Federation passed this message from Assad to Israel and that, moreover, this is not the first such case in the last few weeks.
On Monday last week, Iran rejected remarks made by Russia's President Vladimir Putin suggesting that foreign countries should be withdrawn from the Syria following a political settlement interpreted to be referring to Iran, as well as American and Turkish forces.
Jordan is confident that Russian Federation will not allow President Bashar al-Assad's government to wreck a ceasefire in southern Syria, a Jordanian official said on Monday, days after Washington said it feared that the Syrian government plans an offensive there. We can't exactly ask Israel to jump into this battle openly.
According to Israel's Channel 2, the agreement would OK the presence of Syrian soldiers up to the border with Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, removing Iranian and Hezbollah forces from the area.
"The Iranian militia is the spearhead of the offensive of the Assad forces and its role has been clear for five years, which prevented the Syrians from their freedom and topple the regime".
"The Americans should leave", Assad said.
