Apple releases iOS 11.4 with AirPlay 2 support and more

The update brings the much anticipated multi-room audio support along with stereo pairing to Apple TV and the HomePod.

But another key feature in iOS is the long-expected addition of Messages in iCloud, which syncs across all devices and deletes iMessages across everything, so you won't get quite as spammed.

Note: Make sure you're running iOS 11.4. If you haven't received a notification for the update you can manually check it by going to Settings General Software Update. The feature comes after repeated delays in previous versions of iOS 11, despite its announcement nearly a year ago.

Apple introduced AirPlay in 2011 which was first known as AirTunes. The release comes almost two months after Apple released the first beta versions of iOS 11.4, macOS 10.13.5, tvOS 11.4, and watchOS 4.3.1. Apple iPhone 5s and above, iPad Air and later, and the iPod touch 6th generation are eligible for the latest iOS 11 update. You can also control the synced speaker directly from the lock screen of iPhones and iPads and also through Siri. Airplay 2 also helps HomePod get along with other manufacturers' speakers (like those from Sonos) to play music through all speakers in a home at the same time.

The new iOS 11.4 update will allow Apple users to use two HomePods together with this feature. The feature, however, never arrived with most people having forgotten about it.

Messages on iCloud can be turned on from the Settings Tapping on Account iCloud and toggling on iCloud backup for messages. This will be helpful for those who are short on space. With the feature, all your iMessages are stored in iCloud.

For the Mac, go to Preferences within the Messages app and click the checkbox next to Enable Messages in iCloud. Apple has included some unspecified bug fixes and improvements in iOS 11.4 as well. This allows you to pair two HomePod devices in a wireless stereo setup. What you can't do is control the balance between the stereo-paired HomePods, and there's still no way to equalize the output of the speakers.

There are quite a few issues Apple has fixed with iOS 11.4 like character sequences which crashed the Messages app, and also causing some messages appear disordered.
