In November, the company launched Amazon Key, a service that relies on a home-security camera and smart lock to allow couriers into shoppers' homes to deliver packages.
GM, the top-selling automaker in the US, will make the service available in more than 7 million vehicles that have 4G LTE connections, said a spokesman for the Detroit-based automaker. The service is available on millions of Amazon items and works with the same day, two-day and standard shipping options. Support for even more vehicle makes and models will be added over time, according to a release.
"To get started, customers download the Amazon Key App and then link their Amazon account with their connected vehicle service account", the release said. Every time a delivery driver requests access to a vehicle, Amazon verifies they are in the right location and have the right package. Customers with compatible cars can use the service for packages that come from Amazon itself (not third-party sellers). The auto also has to be parked in a public space, like outside the home or office - in which case, they could probably just deliver it to the actual building.
This time, the technical giant has come up with the idea to do the same thing with the auto.
Bekir Bozdag: emergency state will not affect Turkey's elections
Some 160,000 people have been detained and a similar number of civil servants dismissed since the failed putsch, it said. Today, Parliament extended the country's state of emergency for another three months.
During my test, I received a push notification from Amazon: "Arriving soon: Your package will be delivered to your Volvo".
Amazon has been beta testing the new service in California and Washington state for the past six months. As a start-up idea, the service will be available to only Amazon Subscribers who are the owners of General Motors or Volvo vehicles having model year 2015 or newer with activated OnStar and Volvo call accounts. Call 12 for Action checked Providence zip codes and got the green light, but in-car delivery is not available for Fall River zip codes.
Not satisfied with dropping off parcels inside your home, Amazon can now deliver packages to the trunk of your vehicle. "How do they expect to find and unlock the trunk of my auto?" tweeted one person. Next they just need to flawless anticipating what we want to buy and have it waiting in our living room or trunk before we place the order.
That is, deliveries made inside of your vehicle. Amazon then notifies customers when the package is delivered and the vehicle is relocked. Amazon'sdelivery people receive one-time access to open the trunk.
To use Key In-Car deliveries, you'll add your compatible vehicle to the Key app (the same one used for home deliveries).
