Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rushed to hospital

Trump's reversal of decades of USA and broad global policy was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a "historic decision".

"The prime minister is suffering from a high fever and is coughing", confirmed his spokesman.

The leader was also suffering from a "cough", the office said in a statement.

He is reportedly undergoing additional tests at the Haddassah Hospital in Jerusalem, on the advice of his doctor.

Netanyahu was reportedly driven to the hospital in his normal vehicle rather than in an ambulance.

Haaretz reported that aides who spoke with the doctor at Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital Tuesday evening said there was no need to appoint a replacement for him.

Netanyahu has described Jerusalem as "the capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years", and Trump said the embassy move was "a long overdue step to advance the peace process".

The statement released Tuesday quoted his personal physician as saying he would undergo tests, without elaborating.

The tests showed that Netanyahu has a slight upper-respiratory viral infection.

Netanyahu's illness has come at a time when he is under police investigation for corruption in three different cases.

His wife and son were questioned Monday by police in a high-profile corruption investigation revolving around Bezeq, the Israeli telecom giant.
