Trump singles out Elon Musk's support for tariffs

"I am against import duties in general, but the current rules make things very hard".

Most large USA auto companies already have manufacturing facilities in China, along with large sales. "Meaning, same import duties, ownership constraints & other factors", Musk tweeted. In all cases, the USA presence is due to a Chinese rule that vehicle companies must be majority owned by Chinese partners.

Musk also appeared to criticize former President Obama in his Twitter thread, claiming that "nothing happened" after he raised his concerns about China's foreign vehicle tariff with the Obama Administration.

'We're going to be doing a reciprocal tax at some point. China is also reportedly already prepping for a trade war, investigating the possibility of restricting US grain imports. Trump said last week the US will implement a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum imports, but didn't specify whether the tariffs will be applied to all imports or just imports from specific countries.

The tweet followed Musk's initial message to Trump, where Musk asked Trump's opinion of the disparity between the United States and China's vehicle import policies.

Earlier Thursday, Trump praised Musk and SpaceX as he hailed the private space industry. "I don't know if you saw last with Elon with the rocket boosters where they're coming back down", Trump says in a video published by CNBC.

Scott McTominay picks Scotland over England
According to multiple reports, McTominay has decided to choose his father's native land of Scotland over his own home country. That's what struck me when I met him as a young player. "If he's got that, it'd be very hard for him to play for England ".

'To me, that was more incredible than watching the rocket go up because I've never seen that before. They're saving the boosters.

"Just want a fair outcome, ideally where tariffs/rules are equally moderate", Musk tweeted. "Nothing more. Hope this does not seem unreasonable". "It's got to change", he said as he signed his executive order on the new steel tariffs on Thursday.

The California-based automaker doubled its sales to over $2 billion in China past year.

While mass production of the Tesla Semi Truck isn't slated to begin until 2019 or so, there will presumably be a fair number of more prototypes of various designs put into service by the company before then - partly as a means of testing the trucks out, and ironing out possible design flaws, and also as a means of reducing reliance upon third-party firms.

Musk has met with Trump on several occasions since his election in November 2016.
