Well-wishers are rushing to Sridevi's house in Mumbai to be by her elder daughter Janhvi's side at this devastating time. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30.

According to a report in Indian Express, Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the news by saying, "Yes, it is true that Sridevi passed away. I don't know more details yet".

Bollywood diva Sridevi passed away in Dubai on Saturday following a cardiac arrest, reported Filmfare.

Born on 13th August 1963, Sridevi has half-Telugu and half-Tamil roots and started her career in Telugu and Tamil films. She first made an appearance in Bollywood in 1975 in the film Julie, in which she played the lead actor Lakshmi's little sister. She acted with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and many more superstars but always held her own on screen.

Her nuanced performance as a middle-class woman, learning to speak English to feel accepted by her family, won accolades, and the film was also a commercial success.

Sridevi had declined film offer from Hollywood's Steven Speilberg

However, Sridevi formally married film producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and the actress took a break from films. The 1997 Hindi film Judaai was her last major picture.

For her contribution to Indian cinema over the years, Sridevi was awarded Padma Shri in 2013.

Sridevi made her Bollywood debut in 1978 with film Solwan Sawan and shot to fame after appearing in Himmatwala.
