Redskins considering using franchise tag on Kirk Cousins again

To say nothing of fully escaping the dysfunction, bad business model and an organization in Washington that does not value him. Teams can start handing out franchise tags on February 20.

Drew Brees, another veteran who would draw top dollar on the free-agent market, has made it clear he intends to return to New Orleans, narrowing the Broncos' veteran targets even more. Either way, Cousins would fix an immediate need and bring a much-needed spark to a team that is really just a few pieces away from being contenders again.

"You know, the trade is still agreed to in principle, so it's not set in stone until March 14", Cousins said. How might that work?

More importantly, Cousins could simply refuse to sign the franchise tag. And the moment he does that, his $34.478 million salary for 2018 would become fully guaranteed. Of course, there are ways Cousins could resist the move by waiting to sign the franchise tag or refusing to report to camp if he's traded somewhere he doesn't want to go. This would eat up almost $50 million of available cap space (between Cousins and Smith).

Others teams rumored to be in the hunt are the Cardinals and Vikings, whose radio voice Paul Allen of KFAN reported that a source told him that the Vikings are "number one with a bullet" on Cousins' list.

Australia recall Glenn Maxwell for ODIs in opposition to England
Four of England's top-six batsmen made ducks and the tourists did not hit a boundary until the 15th over. But there was no escaping the fact England were simply blown away by Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood .

When the Washington Redskins traded for quarterback Alex Smith, most assumed Kirk Cousins would become the rarest of National Football League commodities - a top quarterback who was a true free agent in his prime. The Redskins may still end up playing tag and trying to get some sort of compensation for Cousins.

Tagging Cousins would also forfeit the chances of receiving a compensation selection in next year's National Football League draft. He then signs the transition tag tender and the two teams complete the trade.

Kirk Cousins, who has played for the Redskins since 2012, will most likely sign a free agency deal with another team.

Smith, 33, completed his fifth season with the Chiefs by guiding the team to a 10-6 record and the AFC West title, but Kansas City lost to Tennessee 22-21 in the first round of the postseason. Could the Jets be in the mix?

The Browns are another team to watch, because they have so many high draft picks. 33, 35, and 63 in Round 2.
