The African Union and the United Nations said Friday that the malaria epidemic remains Africa's major health care challenge. If there is a topic that is being discussed a lot in Angola is the fight against corruption.
Other important meetings planned on the margins of the AU Summit include a meeting of the African Peer Review Mechanism of which Namibia is a member and meeting of the Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government for Education, Science, and Technology in Africa for which Namibia is a co-champion.
According to Songwe, Africa will register an average economic growth of 3.5 and 3.7 this year and next year amid high prevalence of poverty at about an average of 40 percent.
Presidential Media Aide, Garba Shehu said this is in recognition of the massive decline in corruption in public services since Buhari took office in 2015. "Although the poverty level is reducing, it is still intolerably high at about an average of 40 percent for the continent", she added.

"The 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of AU in January 2018 will meet under the theme "Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa's Transformation" and President Buhari is expected to play a lead role", the statement read.
AU and WHO officials, together with ministers of AU member states and global health care partners, expressed the concern during a high-level panel meeting on malaria held on the sidelines of the 30th AU summit at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.
This is the first time in the 54-year history of the AU that anti-corruption will be made a theme of the gathering of the regional leaders.
