Google Takes On Audible With New Audiobook Offering

Google's Play Store is making a bigger push into selling audiobooks, the company announced Tuesday, putting it in more direct competition with Amazon-owned Audible.

Audible offers one-off purchases, but promotes a $14.95 monthly subscription that includes one free download and 30% off further purchases. As the name suggests, you can now instruct your Google Assistant - regardless of the device you're using - be it your Android phone, tablet or Google Home to read a book of your choice. Not only can you ask Google Assistant to start reading your book, you can do things like set a sleep timer or get more information about a particular author.

To celebrate the launch of audiobooks in Google Play, the search giant is offering promotional pricing on many audiobooks.

With audiobook support coming to Google Assistant, a good read is just a voice command away. For iOS users, they can purchase from the web until Google releases it on iOS platform. The company immediately becomes a major player to be reckoned with.

Dinesh Karthik to replace injured wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha
In a tense second innings, Dean Elgar was on 29 and South Africa 70 for 2 when Parthiv did not go for a catch to his left. Saha, the first choice Test wicketkeeper since MS Dhoni retired in 2014, missed the second Test due a hamstring injury.

"You can buy a single audiobook at an affordable price, with no commitments", Greg Hartrell, Head of Product Management for Google Play Books wrote in a blog post. Assistant integration is now limited to English language users, and Android Auto support is coming soon.

To go along with the launch, Google is offering very deep discounts on lots of audiobook titles. With Google, you can buy books only on a one-off basis. Instead of craving for mind by reading those heavy pages, you can now listen to your favorite story with the help of audiobooks.

With the audiobook users will now be able to experience their favourite literature read out by simply instructing Google Assistant - "Ok Google, read my book". It likely will be some time though, before we get the more advanced features of other similar sites like Audible. The company follows Apple's iBook style allowing you to make purchases without a subscription and it works for Audible books as well.
