Cole probably is only the first domino to fall for the Pirates, who have triggered another roster retooling phase.
Addison Reed, a 29-year-old righthander who has struck out 425 hitters in 402 career innings, has agreed to a two-year contract, a major league baseball source confirmed.
"We can grow with these players, and I will tell you right now this group of players is going to show up every day with the intent to win that night's game and look up in September and fight and do everything they can to put us in position to get there sooner than people think we can", Huntington said.
In 79 games last season at Triple-A Fresno, Moran hit.308 with a.916 OPS. A first-round pick of the Marlins in 2013, Moran has appeared in 16 major league games, recording seven hits in 34 at-bats. He was 19-8, with a 2.60 ERA that season. The Astros were able to acquire Justin Verlander last season minutes before the trade deadline passed.

Lokur, Kurien Joseph, and addressed the press conference on the lawns of Justice Chelameswar's official residence here. Asked what these issues were, he said they included the "allocation of cases by CJI".
Now, there's another intriguing arm in Cole added to the rotation. The Astros likely were eager to get the deal done before those numbers were set. He went 3-for-11 in minimal major league action.
Injuries checked Cole to 21 starts in 2016, but he rebounded previous year and was one of just 15 pitchers in the majors to work 200-plus innings.
2015 was Cole's best year to date, with sterling marks in almost every metric one chooses to judge pitching.
With Cole gone, Jameson Taillon and Ivan Nova will anchor the rotation ahead of Trevor Williams and Chad Kuhl.
Cole, the ace of the Pittsburgh staff, went 12-12 for the Pirates in 2017 with a 4.26 ERA, a down year by his standards. Steven Brault or Tyler Glasnow could be in the No. 5 spot.
