India's December manufacturing PMI sees fastest growth in five years

The index is based on a 100-point index on which the 50 mark divides expansion from contraction.
Looking ahead to 2018, Polish manufacturers registered the strongest degree of optimism in eight months in December.
The moderate decline in headline PMI was mainly attributable to the lower inventory, while production growth remained solid despite the "unfavorable working day effect", as there were two fewer working days in December 2017 compared with previous year, said a CICC research report. That said, the level of business confidence remained below the trend observed for the survey history. This was consistent with the strongest improvement in the health of the sector since December 2012.
"Factory employment continued to contract slightly - a mismatch with expanding output that might reflect the advance of automation", according to Tom Orlik, Bloomberg chief Asia economist.
The manufacturing sector grew in December, setting a new record as business conditions improved at a record pace, a new survey showed.
The Spanish economy grew 0.8 per cent in the fourth quarter from a quarter earlier, The Bank of Spain said on December 27, pointing to 2017 growth of more than 3 per cent.
On the price front, Dodhia said July's Goods and Services Tax (GST) continued to lead to greater raw material costs, with input cost inflation accelerating to the sharpest since April.
The New Export Orders Index picked up notably to 51.9 from 50.8 in November, "partially driven by the rush of holiday season orders", said CICC, adding that China's export demand may continue to benefit from a global synchronized recovery.
Output expanded at the same pace as in August, matching the highest monthly rate of the year, with companies citing improved sales and stronger underlying market demand as key sources of economic growth.
The new order index of the non-manufacturing businesses stood at 52 in December, up 0.2 points from a month ago.
