On the status of St-Pierre's potential return: "There is no status". It was St-Pierre's first fight since 2013. Prior to that announcement, White stated he would be "super pissed" if St-Pierre refused to defend the title, and that he was contractually obligated to do so.
The current UFC lightweight champion hasn't fought in MMA since winning that very belt in November of 2016.
UFC president Dana White was a guest on FS1's Undisputed with Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless to talk about the champ champ's future in the UFC.
"I did not believe McGregor-Mayweather would happen and it did", White added. That's why I put (a mandatory title defense) into his contract. We both knew what was going on.
"I don't know, man, White recently told ESPN's Brett Okamoto. I don't think the guy wants to fight", White mused. White also stated, in an interview on Undisputed, that the victor of the UFC 219 fight between Edson Barboza and Khabib Nurmagomedov could determine the next fight for Ferguson while he is awaiting the return of McGregor.
Despite becoming the lone UFC fighter to hold world titles in two weight divisions simultaneously, McGregor has never once defended either one.
Despite the situation, the UFC executive said his recent conversations with McGregor haven't been about fighting. "He fought everybody on his way up 145 pounds".
The meeting between Mayweather's team could also be part of White's venture into the sport of boxing, which he once again disclosed as a pending direction for the UFC's parent company.
