YouTube to launch Spotify rival streaming music service in 2018

Whichever brand "Remix" officially adopts in 2018, it looks like to replace Google Play Music, which first launched in 2011.

Remix would compete against two overwhelmingly dominant services: Apple Music and Spotify.
According to Bloomberg, Warner Music Group has already inked a licensing deal for the platform.

In order to break into the subscription service game at this stage, YouTube requires the cooperation of the three major labels - Warner, Universal, and Sony. The new product will offer both music and video streaming. Publishers, labels and artists alike have long accused YouTube and other services of hurting their profits. The video platform has also been in talks with UMG and Sony "for more than a year".
As ubiquitous as on-demand music streaming has become in recent years, the global market is pretty close to reaching a saturation point, with two immensely popular platforms and many smaller players basically offering the same exact services.
For the past year, Google has been rumored to be working on a new music streaming service.
YouTube didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
