At least 16 dead after boat capsizes in Andhra Pradesh

At least 16 people died and others were feared drowned after a tourist boat packed with 35-40 passengers capsized into river Krishna at the Pavithra Sangamam ghat near Vijayawada on Sunday evening. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were pressed into the service to fish out the bodies.

The administration was investigating what caused the incident, he said. They said the boat appeared to have hit a sand bar.

Most of the passengers were said to be members of the Ongole Walkers Club in Prakasam district while some were from Nellore who were on a visit to Vijayawada.

Mr Amruthaluru Sagar, owner of a cloth shop at Ibrahimpatnam, came to Ferry to see the crowd at the Karthika Vana Samaradhana.
