Turns out, Look What You Made Me Do was a red herring, and West barely makes an appearance in the album's lyrics, save for one other song in which Swift laughing at the rapper as she dances on his grave. Swift is the first to acknowledge that the people listening to this record will never truly understand her whole story - or anyone else's, for that matter. Of course in the time between albums, Swift has also gained infamy for being petty as fuck.
Taylor Swift's revenge-tinged new album Reputation soared to the top of the iTunes charts on its first day of release on Friday, earning mixed reviews from music critics while fans devoured the lyrics for clues about her latest targets. Ensuing highlights include the auto-tuned electro-pop of "Delicate", the sickly sweet bubbling beat backing a tale of forbidden love on "Gorgeous" and the most 1989-ish track on the record, "Getaway Car". "Because you break them/I had to take them away/This is why we can't have nice things, honey/Did you think I wouldn't hear all the things you said about me?"
"It was so nice being friends again / There I was, giving you a second chance / But then you stabbed my back while shaking my hand / And therein lies the issue / Friends don't try to trick you/ Get you on the phone and mind-twist you / And so I took an axe to a mended fence". It gets worse before it gets better, though, with the ill-fated Ed Sheeran and Future collaboration "End Game".
Rather than play another Reputation track after "New Year's Day", Swift played a handsome rendition of Tom Petty's "American Girl", opting to take it slower and remain seated at the piano. So it's pretty much safe to say that this might have been the peak "nice things" that she refers to in the song.

The subpoena is part of the committee's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Sitting next to Podesta was his attorney Marc Elias, who worked for Perkins Coie , CNN reported.
"This is why we can't have nice things, darling", goes the chorus.
Fans believe the song 'I Did Something Bad' is also about Calvin.
Swift then gives a toast to her real friends: "They don't care about that he said, she said / And here's to my baby / He ain't reading what they call me lately / And here's to my momma / Had to listen to all this drama / And here's to you / 'Cause forgiveness is a nice thing to do / Haha, I can't even say it with a straight face!".
Swift is definitely feeling herself and all the love that's come from her new creation.
