Kentucky Man Charged in Attack on US Senator Paul

According to The Bowling Green Daily News, Boucher lives in the same gated community as Paul.

Boucher was booked into the Warren County Regional Jail.

Senator Rand Paul was at his Kentucky home in Bowling Green mowing the lawn when suddenly he was attacked out of the blue, reportedly by a neighbor who is now in police custody.

"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault", his spokeswoman Kelsey Cooper said in a statement.

On Sunday, he made his first public comments since the incident, tweeting that his wife "Kelley and I appreciate the overwhelming support after Friday's unfortunate event".

His communications director released a statement, saying the senator was "blind-sided" by his attacker. We did not find any posts mentioning Senator Paul.

Hodges said Boucher would have faced more serious charges if had he used a weapon or if Paul had been injured seriously. He is charged with one count of fourth-degree assault and is being held in the Warren County Detention Center, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police.

By late Saturday, the page had been overrun by other Facebook users criticizing Boucher for his alleged assault on Paul.

The investigation is ongoing.
