Senator Dianne Feinstein Will Seek Sixth Term At Age 84

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California announced Monday that she will seek a fifth full term next year, ending months of speculation as a growing stable of possible Democratic successors sat in waiting.

Furthermore, Feinstein is 84, and running for reelection means that numerous younger Democratic talents in California may not have a clear opportunity to rise through the ranks.

"Lots more to do: ending gun violence, combating climate change, access to healthcare", Feinstein wrote.

"There's not a gang member in Chicago, who's going 'hey I'm going to get you, but first I have to go through Dianne Feinstein's background checks.' It's nonsense", he said.

Feinstein is the oldest US senator but among several octogenarians, including Republicans Chuck Grassley, Orrin Hatch, Richard Shelby, Jim Inhofe, Pat Roberts and John McCain. "Her policies are completely out of touch with California Democrats, and we think she'd be more at home in a Republican primary", said Corbin Trent of the Bernie Sanders-inspired group Justice Democrats, vowing to back a primary challenger.

Because of Westbrook's contract extension, there's at least a better chance that George and Anthony will choose do to do the same. Russell Westbrook , the NBA's reigning MVP, has signed a five-year, $205m (£153m) extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder .

Feinstein said her narrowly-tailored proposal should be sufficient to earn bipartisan support, but so far, no Republican has signed on as a co-sponsor. Kevin de Leon, who is term-limited as the Senate president pro tempore, are also known to be angling for higher office.

Markos Moulitsas, the founder of the progressive blog DailyKos.com, tweeted "let's talk" at de León on Monday. Kamala Harris and a rising star among liberals, quickly endorsed Feinstein in a Facebook post. "She's an institution, and has a formidable political operation that's been around forever", the strategist told me.

"What Californians get from Dianne is someone who sticks to her principles and achieves results regardless of powerful opponents, from the assaults weapons ban to the Central Intelligence Agency torture report", Harris said.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, meanwhile, plans to host a fundraiser for Feinstein's re-election campaign, the Los Angeles Times reported last week.
