Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer has revealed advice given to him from former Manchester United and Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal has given him hope to cope with life in the Premier League.

The statistics do not make good reading for the former Netherlands defender, who lasted only 84 days in his previous job at Inter Milan: No points, no goals and the first team since 1924 to lose its first four English top-flight games without scoring.

It would seem extremely harsh for Palace's owners to task de Boer with changing the identity of their play but only give him four PL games to do it before sacking him, but the Eagles have had success in firing managers in the past and this situation seems to be more dire than others.

"I have always had serious conversations with Steve - one day in the week we come together and talk about what's going on", De Boer told a pre-match news conference ahead of the trip to Burnley.

The result sends the Clarets up to 7th in the Premier League table, and keeps Palace in the bottom three, without a win - or even a goal scored - to their name this season.

Lee Chung-yong's blunder today allowed Burnley to take advantage of the chance that was presented to them and put Crystal Palace firmly in the history books.

That is up from 32 per cent in February but well below the 41.5 per cent her party won in the last election in 2013. She said: "We're a democracy and everyone can freely express themselves in public the way they want".

"People are frustrated, I'm frustrated, so are the management and players".

With Parish watching from the stands, De Boer saw second bottom Palace waste a string of chances to at least snatch a point and he will head back to south London with his future in doubt.

Despite having to defend their lead for an hour and a half including injury time, Burnley comfortably kept Crystal Palace at bay.

Palace could have pulled level nearly instantly, but Dann's excellent volley on the turn was cleared off the line by Lowton, with Benteke later sending a header toward goal that left Heaton scrambling - but the ball dropped just wide of the post. I want them to play with courage and maybe we didn't start with it but after the goal we showed what we can do.

One sign that may not be a good one for de Boer is Parish's response to fans saying the team has not done well enough in the transfer market to properly compete. We had only four games in our pre-season and I would normally like to have six or seven games. In football you have to reward yourself, football is about making goals.

"I thought they were the better side", he said. The likes of Andros Townsend, Christian Benteke and Jason Schlupp have fantastic physical profiles, however, certainly lack the technique and composure to play under De Boer's system.
