President Trump and Melania Watch the Solar Eclipse from White House Balcony

Donald Trump has been caught looking at the solar eclipse without special glasses, despite all expert advice saying this practice is unsafe.

Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump and their son Barron, took in the sight from the Truman balcony, which overlooks the South Lawn.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a White House aide was even heard yelling, "Don't look", at the President.

First Daughter and presidential advisor Ivanka Trump was also preparing to watch the eclipse on Monday. It is unclear if he looked directly at the sun. But unlike millions of Americans, he went against the much-repeated and often-emphasized advice of NASA, ophthamologists and moms everywhere and looked at the sun without glasses.

Washington had an approximate 80 percent eclipse.

Looking directly at the sun can cause permanent eye damage, experts have warned. After a brief pause, the president then pulled out his glasses.

From a balcony at the White House, President Donald Trump did it his own way - marveling briefly a few times the astronomical phenomenon sans shades after using them for his initial viewing.

The eclipse was the first since the founding of the republic that will pass directly over only this country, and it traversed a 3,000-mile path, from OR through Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, before finally disappearing off the coast of Charleston, 2:49 p.m.
