WWE Smackdown Live Results 8/15/17

WWE star John Cena certainly didn't hold back when it came to giving fiancée Nikki Bella something special for their fifth anniversary. No need to fantasize such match as the 16-time world champion takes on the current WWE Champion Jinder Mahal in tonight's main event.

- AJ Styles comes out to the ring and we see a video recapping what transpired between him, Shane McMahon, and Kevin Owens last week. AJ Styles is set to defend the title against New Face of America Kevin Owens at SummerSlam.

Will Natalya gather more momentum heading into SummerSlam or does Lynch have other plans in mind?

And, finally, Breezango will be headed to Fashion Peaks one last time, trying to figure everything out. Rusev barely gets Orton's name out when he is hit with an RKO. Owens says AJ hit Shane on objective last week, and thinks AJ has something planned for SummerSlam.

BBCI: Maria Sharapova: Five-time Grand Slam victor given US Open wildcard
The US Open runs from August 28 to September 10 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, New York . Upon her comeback she was denied a wild card for both the main draw and qualifying into the French Open .

"We all want to see John cry", she teased of inviting the cameras in to see her and Cena tie the knot.

The August 15th edition of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI, and was the go-home show for SummerSlam 2017. They fight over a test of strength to start until Cena shoves him away. Jinder throws him outside and we take a break. Cena comes back with some shoulder blocks and a back suplex, then hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle. The Singh Brothers pull Mahal to the floor before the AA but the referee catches them for an ejection. There is also the matter of John Cena losing matches in high-profile spots, and with a consistency that seemed impossible not all that long ago. Not only does it give Corbin, the heel, something to feed his character for the next few months, it also gives more heat behind his match with Cena and if Nakamura wins the title (whether that's at SummerSlam or in another month), it gives him the full spotlight.

The latest bungle by the Lone Wolf means Mahal and Nakamura can duke it out Sunday without the added distraction of Corbin rushing the ring to steal the spotlight - and the gold.

Jinder Mahal has been the WWE Champion since Backlash on May 21.
