Reince Priebus became one of the shortest-serving chiefs of staff Friday when President Donald Trump tweeted he would replace Priebus with John Kelly, Trump's secretary of Homeland Security and a retired Marine four-star general.
The Washington Post reported last week that Scaramucci had a "crude nickname" he used for Priebus in private conversations with associates and the Daily Beast followed that up by confirming that, yes, the nickname is "Reince Penis".
"The president has tried to convince the general multiple times, and the general has politely declined several times", one administration official told the newspaper.
The difference now, he said, is that Trump has created a faction-driven White House, noting: "I just think he has too many independent power centers and not enough team players".
John Kelly is a battle-hardened commander who would bring a background of military discipline and order to President Donald Trump's roiling White House as the new chief of staff.
"He has been a true star of my administration", the president tweeted Friday, announcing that his current secretary of homeland security was in, and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus was out. He is a Great American.... He's a great American and a great leader.
Kelly has been Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
In the photo taken Tuesday, Priebus is seen staring at Scaramucci who is glaring back at him as the two stand inside the Oval Office.
But it was the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci to communications director last Friday that set off Priebus' final unraveling.
"I'm here to serve the country", about the chief strategist who makes next to no appearances on television.

But, a 2015 Buzzfeed report showed that many businesses prefer to hire foreign guest workers over Americans to cut costs and limit legal liability.
In April, Kelly bluntly challenged members of Congress critical of the President Trump administration's aggressive approach to immigration enforcement to either change the laws or "shut up".
As chairman of the RNC, Priebus had the unenviable role of trying to keep the roof on the Republican Party house with Trump, an outsider tornado, spiraling toward it. That left Priebus with the blame for numerous administration's legislative stumbles, including during the arduous attempts at passing a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare - which Priebus had advised Trump to make his first legislative priority, promising him swift victory.
"I believe he has the president's confidence", Ryan told reporters.
White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus may have little left of his job but his title.
Kelly will go from leading the fight against Islamic extremists and illegal immigration to running a White House which has been plagued by political intrigue and under a cloud because of allegations of election collusion with Russian Federation. "I can't think of a better person than Gen John Kelly to succeed me and I wish him God's blessings and great success".
When pressed by Blitzer on why he resigned from the role, Priebus responded, "I'm not going to get into that personal stuff". Some people say that it's - you know, he's Trump squared, that you have somebody who deals with the public in the same way that Donald Trump did.
Anthony Scaramucci, who was appointed communications director one week ago, had accused Mr Priebus - a Republican Party stalwart - of leaking to the press.
In January 2016, Kiffin called that moment the "lowest point" of his career and said he was completely unaware of the impending termination, per Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.
Kelly will be sworn in to his new post Monday.
