Action Aladdin casts Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud

The Aladdin remake follows a successful live-action retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" released earlier this year.

The search is officially over for the lead stars in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Guy Ritchie is directing the film which will give the Disney animated classic a live-action, musical update. Disney is now on the hunt for villain Jafar, who will likely be played by a name actor.

It seemed finding a male lead who can act and sing, in his 20s, was hard especially as the studio needed someone of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent.

Naomi Scott is portraying Princess Jasmine in Disney's "Aladdin".

Names including Massoud's, Achraf Koutet and George Kosturos were among those circulating the internet for weeks prior to Disney's announcement.

The defense bill, which authorizes up to $696 billion in 2018 military spending, is expected to come to a final vote Friday.

Will Smith completes the main Aladdin movie cast as Genie.

Meanwhile, Will Smith will play the role of the Genie and Naomi Scott has nabbed the role of Jasmine in the Guy Ritchie-directed film. Scott, a British actress and singer whose mother hails from Northern India, recently starred in the Power Rangers reboot as the Pink Ranger. He will be playing the role made famous by the late Robin Williams, who voiced the Genie in Aladdin and the sequel Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

Dan Lin will produce the project under his Lin Pictures banner and Jonathan Eirich will executive produce.

Aladdin is set to begin shooting in August in London.
