Mets promote Tim Tebow to advanced minor league team

Tim Tebow is moving up and heading south - to some very familiar territory.

The New York Mets are promoting Tim Tebow from low-A ball to St. Lucie of the Advanced A League.

Tebow, a former Heisman Trophy victor and NFL quarterback who retired from football to pursue a baseball career last summer, signed with the Mets in September.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson announced Tebow's promotion Sunday.

Tebow helped push the Fireflies' average attendance up almost 40 percent over a year ago to a South Atlantic League-lead of 5,230.

Seattle Police Play Video Games As Outreach Opportunity
The Seattle City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday night on the fatal shooting of a Seattle mother by police. This footage shows the protesters chanting "Black Lives Matter" as they march down Seattle's Virginia Street.

Tebow, 29, hit three home runs and had 23 RBI for the Fireflies.

Ally McCaslin was crowned Miss South Carolina Teen 2017 Friday evening at Township Auditorium in Columbia.

"We're pleased with the first half of the season", Alderson said, acknowledging that Tebow's baseball career involved special circumstances.

"I know that my progress has led me to having three good at-bats, to bring in two guys", he said. As an athlete, you can't worry about all those things. You have to focus on, 'Am I seeing the pitches? "Am I doing damage with them?"' "He puts in the work and hopefully, he'll have continued success at a higher level".

Fireflies president John Katz says Tebow's made a "tremendous impact" on the team and he wishes him the best "as he continues his journey to Citi Field".
