EU's Juncker Warns Trump Against US Quitting Paris Climate Deal

"The US Conference of Mayors is a strong proponent of the need to address climate change and we support the Paris agreement, which positions the world's nations, including the United States, to be energy independent, self-reliant, and resilient", Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton, chair of the conference's environment committee, said in a statement.

That's what the top House Democrat is calling President Donald Trump's expected decision to pull the us from a historic climate agreement.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters Thursday that climate change is a "global challenge" no country can ignore.

"Withdrawing from the Paris agreement is hardly going to create jobs in the USA", says Cary Coglianese, professor at the University of Pennsylvania and editor of the book "Does Regulation Kill Jobs?" Scientists warn that any delay in weaning the country off fossil fuels could exacerbate the negative effects of climate change for the rest of the globe.

But this option may not be the likely route, since two senior officials say Trump is expected to withdraw from the climate deal.

Meanwhile British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said he was "anxious" at the prospect of a U.S. withdrawal but said he believed Mr Trump was "genuinely thinking about the issue".

It is uncertain whether he will withdraw from the deal - a process which could take up to three years - or if he will simply exit the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change from which the Paris climate agreement originated.

Fighting climate change is a "global consensus" and an "international responsibility", China's prime minister Li Keqiang said.

California has also previously said it would help pick up the slack for any backdowns by the US President on climate change.

Scott not vetoed the bill, Vermont would have become the first state to legalize marijuana through the state legislature. It would have created a study commission to develop legislation to regulate and tax marijuana for adult use.

The White House did not confirm those reports, and it was unclear whether Trump would fully scrap U.S. participation, merely water down United States emissions objectives - or surprise everyone with a decision to follow the status quo.

Peduto is one of several U.S. mayors who have committed to enforce the tenets of the Paris accord, despite Trump's decision to join Nicaragua and Syria as the only countries not party to the agreement.

The decision will put the U.S. in league with Syria and Nicaragua as the world's only non-participants in the Paris Climate Agreement - brokered by Mr Trump's predecessor Barack Obama in 2015.

A landmark agreement, ratified by 147 parties or countries, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change was aimed at cutting emissions and keeping global temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

The fact is, they either don't know or they simply don't care.

Currently, the United States has committed to reducing carbon emissions between 26 and 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025.

In signing onto the accord, countries pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but were given wide leeway in how much they planned to reduce them by.
