Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails have gone on an open hunger strike since last April 17 demanding improvement of their conditions of captivity.
The health of the 1,600 hunger striking Palestinian prisoners is in danger as they are now on the 23rd day of their strike, the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners' Affairs warned today.
Barghouti's family quickly countered the insinuation that the leader had broken his fast by pointing out the age of the image, and observing that the extreme right-wing Likud Party government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was sinking to new lows in its attempts to discredit an ongoing and widespread hunger strike by Palestinian political prisoners within the Israeli prison system.
Head of the Palestinian Prisoners' Club Qadoura Fares said that Israel's resort to a systematic method of spreading rumors is a demonstration of the utter failure of its previous measures to break the strike and an indication of the steadfastness of the growing hunger strike movement.
- The Israeli media launches the war of rumors and lies about the strike, in order to create confusion in the Palestinian streets and between the striking detainees, and to demoralize the escalation of the strike.

"Pizza Hut's mockery of leaders of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike for freedom and dignity adds insult to deep injury", said the BDS's Mahmoud Nawajaa.
As a result, pro-Palestinian activists have previously called for a boycott of the chain.
However, Israeli officials say only some 800 continue to refuse food and have threatened to bring in foreign doctors to force feed the prisoners.
The post was taken down from their Hebrew Facebook page.
Pizza Hut issued an apology for the ad on the Facebook account of its franchise in Lebanon. "It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the values of our brand", she said. However, on a visit to the detainees Nael Barghouthi and Muhammad Qiq, they said that the prison administration has tried the detainees who joined the strike in collective trials, imposed financial sanctions and deprived them from the canteen and visits. "The local franchisee in the country removed it immediately and the relationship with the agency that posted it was terminated, and we truly regret any hurt this may have caused", it said.
