Earlier on Wednesday, a suspected ISI agent Altaf Ali was arrested from Mumbai and another agent named Aftab Ali, was taken into custody from Faizabad. Aftab was by Pakistan's spy agency ISI and was in constant touch with officials in Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
IG UP-ATS Aseem Arun on Thursday said that the UP ATS picked up Altaf Qureshi on Wednesday night from Masjid Bunder area in South Mumbai and Javed Iqbal from Yusuf Manzil building at Agreepada on Thursday morning. Javed Naviwala is the third person to have been arrested by the police in the espionage ring busted in Lucknow. But they hadn't been able to link him to anything much. "The ISI operatives approached him over telephone in 2014 and offered him an assignment of clicking pictures of Faizabad Cantonment area and sending it to them". "The Maharashtra ATS is now obtaining details of all bank accounts held by Qureshi and Naviwala and examining the bank statements, after which the duo will be questioned as to the transactions that they have made over the years", The Asian Age report said. "Aftab returned to India on June 28, 2016, and was in constant touch with officials of Pakistan High Commission", the ADG said.
"Naviwala was asked by his boss in Pakistan to transfer Rs 15,000 to the account of Ali".
Qureshi, a hawala operator, had allegedly deposited money in the bank account of Aftab Ali.
At least one person dead after stabbing at UT Austin, police say
The stabbing attack does not appear to be part of a larger assault, though authorities were still trying to determine a motive. A person is treated by first responders after a deadly stabbing attack on University of Texas campus in Austin on May 1.
Iqbal told police that he would get instructions from Pakistan.
The ATS had been getting inputs about military information being leaked to Intelligence officials in Pakistani High Commission and ISI. Based at Faizabad, Aftab Ali was keeping close watch on movement of forces in Lucknow and eastern Uttar Pradesh when tension had escalated along the border in Jammu & Kashmir after the surgical strike.
The police said Naviwala had migrated to Mumbai from Dhoraji area in Gujarat's Rajkot district.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had issued a warning of a possible terror attack in the state by ISI-trained terrorists. Reports said that few more people are under the lens of security officials.
