Crews continue to search homes in wake of Texas tornadoes

National Weather Service surveyors have already confirmed seven tornadoes in MS, and Gov. Phil Bryant said the total could rise to as many as 20.

People are taking stock of the damage after severe weather over the weekend killed at least 14 people in five Southern states.

Severe weather was expected elsewhere in the South. Parts of the Florida Panhandle could be affected by severe thunderstorms or high winds and risky rip currents.

Tornadoes in East Texas killed four people, five people were killed in Arkansas during high winds and flooding, two people were killed in each Missouri and MS, and one in Tennessee.

In Tennessee, a two-year-old girl was pronounced dead at a hospital in Nashville after she was struck by a heavy metal football goalpost blown over by heavy winds, according to the city's police department.

Storms rolled eastward in a band stretching from Alabama into the Ohio River valley on Monday, leaving isolated pockets of damage in their wake.

A woman was killed by a falling tree near Fayetteville, Tennessee, on Sunday, Angela Phelps with the Lincoln County Department of Emergency Management confirmed to CNN.

A second death was reported Sunday, but details were not available. She could not confirm news reports that the missing were children who were in a auto swept off a bridge. Authorities warned the death toll was expected to go up.

"I really thought when we got out of our neighborhood, there would be damage everywhere". And in hard-hit Durant, Mayor Tasha Davis said it could be up to a week before repairs on a substation that supplies power to the 900 customers of the city-owned electrical system.

The fire started Sunday about 10 miles (16.1 kilometers) southeast of Green Valley, then swept across the Santa Rita Mountains. The fire has been elevated to Type I status because of its complexity, according to the Southwest Incident Management Team.

Flash-flooding wreaked havoc in Arkansas, while aerial footage of the Missouri storms showed entire communities subsumed in flood waters. The agency did not provide further details, but the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said on its Facebook page that Fire Chief Doug Deckard died "in a tragic accident" while checking an area during a thunderstorm. Her body was found when the water receded, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

I-70 in Kansas was closed due to a "rare late-season blizzard" that has dumped 3-4 inches of snow with strong winds.
