At least one person dead after stabbing at UT Austin, police say

A spokesman for the university did not immediately respond to messages Monday afternoon.
"I understand those frustrations, and I am committed to faster notification in the future", Fenves said.
"They were just screaming, 'Run!"
"Then I turned around and started running", she said.
University of Texas-Austin student Elissa Garza said she and her friend, Ileanna Guerri, were having lunch, enjoying "a handsome day" on campus Monday, when a fellow student came into the area and attacked multiple students with a knife, killing one and injuring three others.
"The news of Harrison Brown's (GHS Class of 2016) passing is heartbreaking There are no words adequate enough to express the sorrow felt by Graham ISD and the community of Graham for this loss".

Witnesses say he had a "nonchalant" look on his face.
Officers have one person in custody, police said.
"The officer observed the individual walking away from an individual who was down on the ground", Carter said.
The UT Police Department received reports of the incident at 1:49 p.m. "Another student had lacerations to their head and was getting help from police", said student Ray Arredondo.
National monuments a 'massive federal land grab'
The president doesn't have the authority to "significantly alter" a national monument, Kelly said in an email. A substantial portion of the monument, including Rattlesnake Mountain, remains closed to the public.
"He looked nearly unfazed by the whole thing", Arredondo said.

Classes and events were cancelled Monday afternoon and evening, "due to this horrific and senseless tragedy in the heart of our campus", university President Gregg Fenves said in a statement released Monday afternoon.
"There have been rumors that have not been credible", Bird said.
Carter said there was no evidence to suggest a particular motive. White was being questioned by police and charges were likely to come later. "It would be premature to indicate or suggest one thing or another".

According to an arrest affidavit, police arrested White on April 4 on a charge of driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a wreck on campus.
The stabbing attack does not appear to be part of a larger assault, though authorities were still trying to determine a motive. Herald records show White graduated from KHS in 2014. A woman who answered the phone at the home hung up when she was told she was speaking with a reporter. He added Kendrex Jay White, a student at the university, is in custody. One penned an open letter to university President Greg Fenves calling him a failure. The pedestrian bridge across the bustling Dean Keeton Street connects the Belo Center for New Media with Jesse H. Jones Communication Center. No one was arrested in that incident. Carter said police were on the scene about 90 seconds after the first call, a response that officials believe possibly saved others. I can not concentrate to study for my exams. She fears that a similar incident could happen again.
On social media, police and university leaders sent alerts to the campus community. This is not a learning environment.
