ACC football championship back in Charlotte for 2017

The NCAA announced tournament sites for the next five years Tuesday which includes North Carolina locations.

The ACC announced its return to neutral sites in North Carolina Wednesday - one day after the NCAA awarded the state championship bids.

In the past year, the NCAA moved seven championship events out of North Carolina, including the opening weekend of the 2017 NCAA tournament.

The American Civil Liberties Union condemned the compromise bill, citing a lack of clear protection for LGBT people in North Carolina.

LGBTQ activists said the new law, HB142, didn't amount to a full repeal of HB2 and that transgender people could still be subject to discrimination.

Sykes said her daughter was a dedicated teacher who took up the profession about 10 years ago, after her four children grew up. He went to her classroom and "without saying anything" shot her with a large-calibre revolver, Mr Burguan said.

Bids had been placed for JDL Fast Track indoor track for 2019, 2020 and 2021 Div. II championships, and Division III championships for 2019 through 2022'. The GAC is now set to host those events through 2023.

"Maintaining the integrity of sports and protecting student-athlete well-being are at the bedrock of the NCAA's mission, and are reflected in our policies prohibiting the hosting of our championships in states that provide for single game sports wagering", Mark Lewis, NCAA executive vice president of championships and alliances, said in a statement.

Charlotte will next year host the NCAA's first event in North Carolina since ending its boycott.

In addition to basketball, the city learned that it would host an NCAA regional men's and women's track meet at the University of NorthFlorida's Hodges Stadium in 2019 and 2021. The board, however, directs that any site awarded a championship event in North Carolina or elsewhere be required to submit additional documentation demonstrating how student-athletes and fans will be protected from discrimination. In a basketball-crazed state, losing events such as the NBA all-star game and big NCAA tournament games was also a blow to residents' pride. That means Charlotte will host the first and second rounds of the men's basketball tournament at the Spectrum Center March 16-18, 2018.

The organization pulled championships from the state a year ago in response to HB2. "Information on ticket sales for the 2017 Dr Pepper Football Championship Game in Charlotte will be forthcoming", Will Weber, president of the Charlotte Sports Foundation, said in a statement. The new law, House Bill 142, repeals House Bill 2, but it also leaves bathroom regulation to the state and enacts a moratorium on local LGBT ordinances until December 1, 2020.

Future regional semifinal and final sites are nearly all experienced with hosting the event. The 2018 event will be held in Brooklyn before returning to Charlotte in 2019 and Greensboro in 2020.
