DeVos says it should be up to locales and state governments. "I don't think any teacher in this school district would be hired with those kind of answers", said Keller. Bernie Sanders tried to sell DeVos on free college tuition (something even Hillary Clinton was reluctant to do), and Massachusetts Sen. In Betsy DeVos, the nation's children - and the school-choice programs from which they stand to benefit - will have a champion in Washington.
DeVos, a MI billionaire and Republican mega-donor who has faced contentious confirmation hearings this week, has been criticized as a longtime aggressive advocate for charter schools and private-school voucher programs. Wyden also released an audio statement, in which he criticized DeVos' performance at her confirmation heading.

"I think probably there, I would imagine that there's probably a gun in the school to protect from potential grizzlies", DeVos said, referencing a school in Wyoming that has a fence to keep out unsafe wildlife.
"Senator Franken, I've never believed in that", DeVos answered. Since at least 2006, DeVos has been listed on the foundation's filing documents as one of the directors. A Lankford aide said he and DeVos had talked of "reining in" that office.
DeVos should have automatically been disqualified for having zero experience with public schools, for being against public schools, and for being anti-LGBT, but she proved over and over again just how unqualified she is to manage a $77 billion federal agency.
