Heavy Rains in Andamans, 800 Tourists Stranded

Four ships of the Indian Navy were sailed on Wednesday morning to evacuate about 800 tourists from Havelock Island in Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Islands, an official said.
National Disaster Management Authority informed that the evacuation process has officially been completed with all the tourists being evacuated safely to Port Blair.
A massive operation to rescue 1400 tourists stranded in Andaman's Havelock Island and Neil Island is now underway after weather conditions in the island improved on Friday.
Located about 40 km from here, Havelock and Neil are the most popular tourist attractions in the Andamans where tourists were stranded since Monday due to torrential rains, choppy seas and heavy winds as neither aircrafts nor ships could operate due to the inclement weather. The tourists during this period were absolutely safe and sound and were being well looked after.
Vadodara: A couple, who was stranded in the cyclonic storm in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, returned to the city on Saturday evening.
Evacuations from the Havelock Island in Andaman and Nicobar Island has started.

An Air India spokesperson said in Kolkata that flight operations by the airlines was normal Thursday. But, due to bad weather, our ferry got cancelled and we stayed back at Port Blair itself.
The tourists have been requested to remain in their rooms till weather conditions improve and have also been asked to stay away from coastal areas. The evacuation operation was launched following a request from civil Administration to bring back almost 800 tourists from Havelock.
